This summer we have been walking through the Psalms, trying to move beyond the Americanized version of God, as we journey to a deeper beauty and depth. We conclude that series over the next three weeks as we see three Psalms reflect our own emotions along that sometimes difficult journey. All are welcome. Saturday night at 5:30pm.
Psalms are poems, not prescriptions.
" ... the modern-day church doesn’t like to wander or wait. The modern-day church likes results. Convinced the gospel is a product we’ve got to sell to an increasingly shrinking market, we like our people to function as walking advertisements: happy, put-together, finished—proof that this Jesus stuff WORKS! At its best, such a culture generates pews of Stepford Wife–style robots with painted smiles and programmed moves. At its worst, it creates environments where abuse and corruption get covered up to protect reputations and preserve image. “The world is watching,” Christians like to say, “so let’s be on our best behavior and quickly hide the mess. Let’s throw up some before-and-after shots and roll that flashy footage of our miracle product blanching out every sign of dirt, hiding every sign of disease.” But if the world is watching, we might as well tell the truth. And the truth is, the church doesn’t offer a cure. It doesn’t offer a quick fix. The church offers death and resurrection. The church offers the messy, inconvenient, gut-wrenching, never-ending work of healing and reconciliation. The church offers grace. Anything else we try to peddle is snake oil. It’s not the real thing." - Rachel Held Evans #becauseofRHE
Religion says take yourself seriously. Jesus says take my love seriously.
Refuge will gather this Saturday night to celebrate Easter. As always, the gathering will be simple, intimate and honest. This year we will tell the story from John's own words. What might have been running through his mind on the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter Sunday? #opraisehisname
What if the entire Christian community in SWFL began praying together daily? We invite you to join us in following this daily pattern: 8am pray for yourself. 12pm pray for your church. 6pm pray for The Church. If you need help remembering, your phone makes a great modern church bell. #john17 #onechurch
God does not need us. We need God.

The gospel of grace calls us to sing of the everyday mystery of intimacy with God instead of always seeking for miracles or visions. #ragamuffingospel
Our sins they are many; His mercy is more.
You don’t have to walk with Jesus, you get to walk with Jesus.
Much of the messaging to young woman and married woman from the church today, regarding sex and sexuality, is a recipe for disaster. Repress, repress, repress (SHAME). Meet someone else’s needs to not lose them (GUILT). None of this is what God intended when he gave us the gift of sexuality.
When I get honest, I admit I am a bundle of paradoxes. I believe and I doubt, I hope and get discouraged, I love and I hate, I feel bad about feeling good, I feel guilty about not feeling guilty. I am trusting and suspicious. I am honest and I still play games. Aristotle said I am a rational animal; I say I am an angel with an incredible capacity for beer. (Brennan Manning // Ragamuffin Gospel)
For God to create the universe and humanity, it cost him nothing. For God to heal leper’s and the blind, it cost him nothing. But for God to save ME from MY sin, it cost him his life! #thegospel #iamloved
